Psychologists say that one of the most common weaknesses of personality is that people often do not want to succeed. Somewhere along the line they have learned that it is a dangerous thing to succeed, as it imposes upon them the burden of responsibility to live up a success status. So they deliberately, though unconsciously, seek ways to keep themselves inferior by emphasizing their weaknesses. Are you one of them?
Now it is a fact of life that each person is made of stronger and weaker areas of personality. The question is, which are you going to dwell on? Which are you going to emphasize? If you specialize on the weaker areas in your personality you will become weak. On the other hand, if you stress the stronger areas you will become strong. It is as simple and certain as that.
But we must be careful not to confuse real weaknesses with self-assume ones. Learning to accept ourselves is the first step in overcoming the weakness of inadequacy. Most of us, at least those of us who are troubled with the inferiority complex, pay far too much attention to ourselves, to our self-assumed weaknesses and drawbacks. We become self-conscious about things which are not important. We feel that everyone is noticing them when in reality they are not.
I believe that everyone has this kind of feeling. Don’t let this feeling beat you down. If you’re far, do you think that it will be an obstacle that prevents you from getting what you want in your life? Let me tell you a story here. A young boy complaint to his parents and says, ‘nobody likes me because my nose is too big.’
His mother then tells him, ‘Name 5 acquaintances who do not like you because your nose is too big.’ So the young boy gives 5 names and a little later, his mother took the time to place a call to each of these young people. As soon as his mother got them on the phone, she asks them to name the outstanding characteristic of her son’s personality. Each one had to think a while, but this was the result of the question:
One says that it is his friendliness; another says that he is usually good in arithmetic; a girl says he is a marvelous dancer; and so on. Not even one of these people mentioned this boy’s nose as his outstanding characteristic. Apparently no one but he himself had any consciousness of that nose.
So it is true that many of us pick out some little characteristic which we consider to be a weakness and spend a great deal of effort convincing ourselves that because of this weakness we cannot succeed!
Here is an amazing truth that I’m going to share with you. Did you actually know that by all the rules of aerodynamics, the bumblebee cannot fly? But the bumblebee doesn’t know it and just keeps on flying! He is too fat, he is too big, and his wings are too short, but he just keeps going. Here is an example of How Positive Thinking Leads You To Success.
This is what you must learn to apply in your life. Positive thinking has always been one of the most powerful success strategies around. Sometimes you may think that it is because of your physical look that will drag you down and stop you from getting what you want, however, it isn’t always the case. It is the false generalization that you have in your mind that causes you to stop and fail.
Even if it is true that your physical look is dragging you down in your road to success, you can still overcome this by positive thinking. Always remember this phrase, “Setbacks are given to ordinary people to make them extraordinary.”
