Why You Fail To Achieve Your Goals And How You Can Make Your Goals Come True

July 23rd, 2009

If you’ve been following me with my blog here, you should know that you need to have a clear goal. If you want to be successful but you don’t have a goal, you will never achieve what you want in your life.

I’m not going to tell you why you need to have a goal in your life or how to set an empowering goal in this article. What I’m going to share with you here today is something that I found interesting.

I believe that almost everyone who sets their goals fail to make their goals come true.

I don’t know about you, but this has happened to me before. Why is this so?

And in this article, I’m going to share with you the idea why most people fail to achieve their goals and how you can make a different and achieve what you really want in your life.

Your Goals Are Not Your Dreams

First of all, many people treat their goals like dreams. They have big goals, and I mean really big goals. It is great to have big goals, but the problem is, can you really achieve it?

Too often, people set their goals too big until they’re overwhelmed by their goals. In other words, their goals are just unrealistic.

Before you set your goals, make sure they are really within your reach! If you set your goal as to make a million dollar by selling a $1 key chain, do you know how many sales you’re going to make before you can achieve that target? Do you know how many rejections you’ll have to go through before you can finally cross that 1 million dollar mark? Can you really stand the rejection? Are you really committed to put in the crazy hard work?

This is what is happening to most people. If you’re trying to earn a million dollar by selling a $1 key chain, you’ll give up faster than you can ever imagine.

What is more worse is that people will set a very short deadline for their goals. For example, they want to lose weight and they want to lose it fast. It is just like you set your goal as to make $100,000 in just 24 hours, which is not really possible.

I’m not saying that you cannot set big goals or it is impossible to achieve such a big goal in a short time. What I’m suggesting you is…

Start With Small Goals To Stretch Your Muscle

You have to start small. You have to make use to goal setting and you must train yourself, your muscle and your brain about achieving goals.

If you set 100 goals but you fail to even make anyone of them come true, what will you do? Do you think you will feel de-motivated and give up forever?

Of course you will! So use goal setting in the right way. Start from setting small goals that you can attain.

Let me give you an example here. If your usual wake up time is 7am and you want to improve it to 6am, what you can do is by setting small goals to train yourself in achieving it.

You can start by waking up at 6.50am for 3 days, 6.40am for another 3 days, 6.30am for the next 3 days and so on until you achieve your ultimate goal.

It is the same if you want to adopt the habit of reading. Some people will feel sleepy once they open their book. So what you can do is start from small task. Train yourself to read for 5 to 10 minutes. And then slowly increase the time you spend into reading until you get use to it and eventually achieve your goals.

You must not OVERDO yourself. You’re not superman and you will never be! (and I hope you don’t want to be a superman because you’ll have to wear your underwear outside! :P )

The whole message of this article is this, do not set goals that are unrealistic or outside of your reach, at least not when you’re new in goal setting. Make sure your goals are attainable.

Always start with smaller goals that you can achieve to build up the momentum. Once you achieved your goals, you will feel happy and extremely fulfilled. So what good is this?

You will be motivated, you will take even more action and set even higher goals in your life.

Therefore, if you’re not achieving your goals, maybe this is one of the reasons for it.

So try to break down your goals into smaller goals and start taking action, right now!

How These 2 Successful Guys Leverage On Goal Setting

April 9th, 2009

So have you written down your goals but fail to achieve them? If you achieved your goals, congratulations, but if you fail to achieve them, what do you think about goal setting? Is goal setting truly works?

Well, I’m going to share with you how these 2 successful guys leverage on goal setting to accomplish amazing results in their life later in this post. I wanted to show you that it is not goal setting does not work, it is the people who practice it that do not work.

One of the most common reasons people fail to achieve their goal is that they thought that goal setting is about writing what they want on a piece of paper and miracle will occur. This is totally not true at all. Goal setting is not a magic wand, writing down what you want only helps you to manifest and stay focused in your direction, it will not help you to create the results you want in your life.

So make this clear, goal setting is not a magic wand, you cannot get what you want by just a wave. You’ll need to put in REAL EFFORTS and TAKE ACTION to make your goals come true.

This is the number one reason people fail to achieve what they want – lack of action.

People fail to accomplish their goals not because goal setting does not work; it is not because their goals are too high; it is not that they don’t have the knowledge and resource; it is because of the lack of action. Let’s face it, human is lazy, and people tend to delay and procrastinate on their work, as a result, this is what causes most people fail to achieve what they want in their life.

Goal setting works and it works wonder IF you make it work.

As long as you are determined about your goals, you are100% committed to achieve them, and you are willing to sacrifice and take the necessary action, you will DEFINITELY achieve them.

Even Bruce Lee Knows The Power Of Goal Setting

Do you know who Bruce Lee is? I bet you’ve heard of his name. He is the world’s most famous martial artist. If you ever get a chance to visit Planet Hollywood in the New York City, look for the letter hanging on the wall that Bruce Lee wrote to himself.

Bruce wrote, “By 1980 I will be the best known oriental movie star in the United States and will have secured $10 million dollars. And in return I will give the very best acting I can possibly give every single time I am in front of the camera and I will live in peace and harmony”

So you see, even Bruce Lee has his own goals and wrote them down into paper.

Jim Carrey Leveraged On Goal Setting By Writing Himself A Check

Before Jim Carrey was famous, he walked up to the Hollywood Hills and wrote himself a check for $10 million dollars. The check was dated on Thanksgiving 1995, added the notation “for acting services rendered”. Since then, he carried this check with him to anywhere in his wallet from that day onward. Sometimes he’ll just pulling it out to keep his dream clearly visible in his mind.

The rest, as they say, is history. Carrey’s optimism and tenacity eventually paid off, and by 1995, after the huge box office success of Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber, his asking price had risen to $20 million per picture. When his father died in 1994, he placed the $10 million check into his father’s coffin as a tribute to the man who had both started and nurtured his dreams of being a star.

Both Bruce Lee and Jim Carrey have a clear vision of what they want in their life; they have clear vision, they set clear goals, they are determined and they put in 100% commitment into making their goals come true.

These are the true secrets to success. It does not matter where you come from, even if you don’t have a proper education, you can still accomplish and achieve great success in your life. All it matter is where you are heading.

And this is how goal setting can help you to stay focused in your life and achieve basically anything you have set. If you are really serious about achieving great success in your life and you would like to shortcut your journey to success, visit Goal Setting Formula now.

5 Guaranteed Steps To Achieve Your Goals

January 26th, 2009

Goal SettingAchieving your goal is not something difficult. In fact, as long as you’re serious in making your goals come true, you’re definitely able to achieve them. It is just a matter of time to achieve your goals.

One of the most common reasons people fail to achieve their goal is that they don’t even know what their goals are! Some people do not know about the power of goal setting and hence, they never set any goals in their life. While some people heard about goal setting, they just did not do anything about it. What a waste if you are not using this powerful skill to the fullest.

Another reason is that some people had set their goals, but they are not setting their goals correctly. Let me give you a very simple example. If you set your goals to make $100,000 in just one month, this will be a wrong goal. Not that it is impossible to be achieved, however, you must consider your current situation.

Just like if you’re only making $1,000 a month and you set your goals as to earn $100,000 in just one month, it will be almost impossible to achieve. This is a common mistake that most people will do in goal setting. It is true that you must think big and dream big, however, the goals you set must be realistic.

It is preferably to set smaller goals when you just starting out. This is so that you can build up your confidence because it is easier to achieve smaller goals. Don’t think about reaching the sky in just one step. You have to break down your goals into smaller goals and write them down. As the saying goes, “Rome was not built in a day”.

So find out what you really want in your life, set your goals and be realistic in goal setting. Follow through the guides in Goal Setting in my blog. There are tons of great information, tips and strategies how to set and achieve your goals here in my blog.

Here are the 5 guaranteed steps how you can achieve your goals…

1. Be 100% Committed In Achieving Your Goals

You must be committed and serious in achieving your goals. If you are not serious, you’ll never take action and I’m sure you’ll procrastinate. If you’re not serious in achieving your goals, why do you set goals in the first place? So if you’re going to set goals, make sure you’re serious about it and always take the necessary action to make your goals come true.

Too often, people are lazy to take the necessary action to make their goals come true. So you have to make it a ‘do or die’ situation. When you know that you cannot fail, you’ll definitely achieve your goals. Burn all the bridges so that you have no other choice but to achieve your goals. If you do so, you’ll put in 100% commitment into making your goals come true.

This is one of the most obvious differences between a successful person with someone who fail to achieve their goals in life. Successful people treat their goals seriously and do whatever they can to make their goals come true. However, ordinary people will give excuses, blame and delay their actions.

2. Affirm Your Goals Twice A day

Affirming your goals once after you woke up and once before you sleep is a MUST DO if you are serious to achieve your goals. Many people underestimate the power of affirming their goals. Think about it, affirming your goal is not something difficult, it only takes you a few minutes a day and if you do this everyday, the result it brings are amazing.

Therefore, try to apply this simple but effective technique at least twice everyday. If you truly follow through and do this everyday, you’ll submerge the idea of achieving your goals into your subconscious mind. You’ll keep on thinking about your goals and be motivated all the time to achieve them.

One of the success strategies is that you must always think about what you want often. Successful people think about what they want most of the time while ordinary people think about what they don’t want most of the time. The more you think about your goals, the more you’re going to take action because you’re motivated about it.

3. Stop Blaming and Giving Excuses

If you fail to achieve your goals, which most of the time you’ll face, don’t blame anyone or anything and don’t give any excuses. Instead, take 100% responsibility and try to learn from the feedback. Why did you fail to achieve your goals? Are you using the right strategies? Are you goals too high? Are you taking enough action? Learn from the feedback that you received and you’ll improve in your life.

People will give excuses and blame other factors when they fail to achieve their goals most of the time. But if you’re someone clever, you’ll know that when you blame and give excuses, you’ll lose the power to control and hence stay at the same point in your life.

Success is not about blaming and giving excuses. It is about learning and improving. The more you learn from your mistakes the more you’re going to improve. The best is to learn from other people’s mistakes. Smart people learn from their own mistakes and feedback; smarter people learn from other people’s mistakes and feedback.

4. Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Are you ready to take the necessary action to make your goals come true? You must be willing to get out of your comfort zone if you want to achieve your goals. You’ll definitely change your life slowly as you achieve what you want in your life and getting nearer toward your goals everyday. So be ready to get out of your comfort zone.

You don’t have to change your life drastically, but you must be willing to improve your life a little bit everyday. Often, it is the small changes that will bring you toward your success. For example, you can develop the habit of affirming your goals twice a day until after you’ve made this a habit, only then you start to develop other empowering habits.

5. Get Busy Paying The Price

Achieving your goal is easy, once you’ve set your goals, get busy paying the price. Meaning, you have to keep on taking action to make your goals come true. Goal setting is not a magic wand, you’ll not achieve what you want by just writing it down. You’ll have to actually do something to make your goals come true. If you’re not doing anything, don’t expect to see results. It is impossible that success will fall from the sky automatically.

Many people seem to misunderstand and thought that once they set their goals, they’ll achieve their goals automatically. The real in making your goals come true is in taking consistent action. So ask yourself whether are you ready to sacrifice and take action to make your goals come true?

These are the 5 guaranteed steps that as long as you follow through, I’ll guarantee that you’ll achieve your goals. These are not big secrets, they are just plain mindset and habits. Success require no secrets, but a lot of hard work and determination to make it come true.

Always remember this, success is about getting things done, it is a process and not a destination. So get ready and be prepare to do what are supposed to do right now. Start paying the price to make your goals come true.

How To Affirm Your Goals

December 23rd, 2008

How To Affirm Your GoalsOne way to stretch your comfort zone is to bombard your subconscious mind with new thoughts and images – of a big bank account, a trim and healthy body, exciting work, interesting friends, memorable vacations – of all your goals already complete. The technique you use to do this is called affirmations.

Affirmation is one of the most powerful success strategies that almost every successful person use to achieve amazing results in their life.

This is the quote from Jim Carry:

I’ve always believed in magic. When I wasn’t doing anything in this town, I’d go up every night, sit on Mulholland Drive, look out at the city, stretch out my arms, and say, “Everybody wants to work with me. I’m a really good actor. I have all kinds of great movie offers.” I’d just repeat these things over and over, literally convincing myself that I had a couple of movies lined up. I’d drive down that hill, ready to take the world on, going, “Movie offers are out there for me, I just don’t hear them yet.” It was like total affirmations, antidotes to the stuff that stems from my family background.

Having a clear and definite plan in your life is just the first step, affirming it constantly is the second step. In fact, it is the affirmations that you make in your life that brings you amazing results.

This is because when you affirm your goals and what you want to achieve in your life, you’re actually strengthening your mind about achieving them. By affirming over and over again, you’ll get yourself motivated and making your goals even more realistic. Everything and every step that you take will lead you toward your goals.

The problem with most people is that they are not affirming their goals. They just write down their goals on a piece of paper, put it somewhere and forget about it. If you’re truly serious in achieving your goals, you must do affirmation everyday.

The best way how you can affirm your goal is by writing down your goals on a card. And then put it beside your bed where you sleep. Every morning right after you wake up, read your goals to affirm them. Do this at least twice, one after you wake up and one before you sleep.

This is the best way to keep yourself motivated and to sink the idea of achieving your goals into your subconscious mind. Of course, you can also do this when you are free. For example, when you are queuing, when you are driving and when you are bathing. Use the free time you have to affirm your goals and imagine about the achievement of your goals.

Writing down your goals only build the momentum in you, and if you want to keep that momentum going, you need to affirm your goals.

You should know it very well that it is the lack of action that makes most people fail to achieve their goals. And the reason for the lack of action is because of the lack of motivation. Sometimes you’ll feel that you’re motivated, you’re driven and you’re ready to take on the world. And this is when you take the most action to make your goals come true.

However, you’ll not be in this state all the time. Sometimes you’ll feel lazy and you’ll feel down and you don’t wish to take any action at all. This is why affirmation is so important. Because it keeps you motivated, it keeps you driven and it makes you ready to take on the world.

So this is your assignment for today, get a piece of card and write down your goals. What you want to achieve in your life and what kind of lifestyle you want to live in. How much money you want to earn and when are you going to become a millionaire.

Make sure that you’re brief in it and use present tense in this. Your affirmations must be measurable and have a deadline. Just like you’re setting your goals. If you’re going to become rich, how much you’re going to earn and when are you going to earn it?

Here’s the affirmation of Jack Canfield:

God is my infinite supply and large sums of money come to me quickly and easily under the grace of God for the highest good of all concerned. I am happily and easily earning, saving and investing $100,000 a year.

Don’t procrastinate and don’t delay. Once you finished this article, take out a piece of card and do it now. This is the most powerful success strategy you can ever find. Use it wisely!

Keep doing this for the next 21 days. Affirm your goals in the morning and night.

3 Foundation For Successful Goal Setting

November 3rd, 2008

Do you have any goals that you want to achieve but in the end you fail to achieve them?

This is a very common problem that most people face. I mean, they know what they want and they even written down their goals, but still they fail to achieve their goals.

Why is this so? One of the reasons is because that most people do not build the foundation for successful goal setting. Do you know that you need to strong foundation so that you will be able to achieve your goals much more easily?

Goal setting is just like building a house, if the foundation that you built is not strong enough, it will collapse easily. Therefore, you need to find out how you can build a strong foundation before you start your engine to make your goals come true.

Below are the 3 keys in building a strong foundation for successful goal setting:

1. You Need To Believe That You Have All The Potential

One of the most common mistakes that many will make in goal setting is that they sell themselves short. They thought that it is impossible for them to make $100,000 a year, so they just set smaller goals. Instead of setting goal to earn $100,000, they set their goals to increase their income of $1,000 a month.

You must believe that you have unlimited potential in achieving anything you want in your life. You need to adopt the ‘blue sky’ thinking. Where you think without any limitation, the sky is the limit.

Don’t sell yourself short, you can achieve anything you want if you want to. It all starts from your mind, your thinking.

2. Be Responsible

If you fail to achieve your goals, you need to know that it is because of you. Therefore, you need to take the responsible for it. Let me ask you this, if you fail to achieve your goals, do you think that it is your fault? Or do you think that it is not your fault?

For most people, the moment they fail to achieve their goals, they put the responsibility on other factors. For example, they blame the economy for being bad, they blame their parents for not supporting them, they blame their wife or their husband, they blame anything except themselves.

Know this, if you put the responsibility on other people, do you think that you will improve? Do you think that you will change? Not at all. This is because when you blame other people, you are not in control and you will never change.

It is just like what I mentioned in my post, Are You A Victor, Or A Victim.

3. Designing Your Goals

Let’s face it, do you know how to set your goals? Most people don’t. They know that they need to set goals in order to achieve what they want, but they don’t know how they can do so.

If you want to learn how to design your goals, I’ll suggest that you to grab a copy of my Goal Setting Formula.

These are the 3 keys that you will need to build a strong foundation for successful goal setting.

4 Common Reasons People Don’t Set Goals

October 21st, 2008

Goal SettingIf you want to be successful today, you must learn to set your goals. If there is one advice that I can give to help you to achieve what you want in your life, it is goal setting.

I can’t stress enough how important goal setting is to you in order to achieve what you really want. Do you think that you can achieve something just like luck? Do you think that you will become a millionaire by doing nothing, and the money just fall from the sky? This is impossible.

You must first have a dream, you wish and think that you want to become a millionaire. However, this is not enough, by just dreaming about what you want will not get you what you want. You must then develop a burning desire. It is your desire that will drive you into taking the action, it is your burning desire that will move you towards your dreams.

If desire itself can bring you what you want, why do you need to have a goal then?

Goal setting is leverage, it is a tool that will get you what you want in a faster and easier manner. Just like if you want to become a millionaire, having a strong desire is good, but having a clear and specific goal pointing you to that direction in the same time is better.

If you still hesitate why you need to have a goal, read this post of mine, Top 3 Reasons Why You Need To Have A Goal.

Now, many people want to be successful, but most of them will not set goals, why? Below are the 4 common reasons people don’t set goals…

1. They Don’t Aware Of The Importance Of Goal Setting

How many of you know about goal setting? The answer is, not much. A lot of people want to be successful, but they will never read more and learn more. And if you are not reading more and learning more, how can you learn the art of goal setting? It is impossible that this skill will come to you automatically.

There must be a time where you first come across this information, where you come across the skill of goal setting in your life. I’ll strongly suggest you to rad through this post of mine, Why You Need To Set Goals Today. Once you went through this post, you will understand why goal setting is important in your life.

Like what I mentioned in that post of mine:

Without direction, we will be caught up with short term outcomes like paying the bills, watching TV, going shopping, trying out the newest restaurant, avoiding problems or simply making it through one hectic week after another. Like rats on a treadmill. We will tend to be caught up in a stressed and monotonous existence instead of designing a destiny and truly living.

So make sure you know why you need to set goals today. When the reasons are clear, you will then start your goal setting journey, but most people…

2. They Don’t Know How To Set Goals

Do you know how to set goals? Many people don’t know how to set goals. In fact, goal setting is just a process, it is not complicated but it is not easy as well. But don’t get freak out because I said that it is not easy. There are many ways how you can set your goals, some are effective than others, and what you want to learn, is of course, the better and more effective ways of goal setting.

Of course, if you ask me how to set effective goals, I’ll tell you to grab my Goal Setting Formula. You will find every step and process there, what you need to do before and after you have set your goals. Go and grab it if you feel that it is going to help you to achieve much more in your life.

3. They Are Afraid Of Failure

Do you afraid of failure? A lot of people don’t set their goals simply because they are afraid of failure! Can you imagine that? They haven’t achieved their goals and they haven’t actually took any real solid action yet, but they are already losing the faith and afraid of failure.

After all, if you don’t set goals, you won’t fail, right? Wrong, you will be living a mediocrity life, which is the biggest failure in your life. So if you don’t have any goals in your life, you’re losing, you fail. Don’t worry about failure my friend, nobody was born perfect, everyone will fail in their lives.

It is just a matter of how you deal with failure. If you treat failure as something bad, something limit you, you will never grow. However, if you treat failure as feedback and change your strategies the moment you receive feedback, you will improve and you will grow. This is what success is all about.

Do you think that Thomas Edison successfully invented the light bulb in his first try? Do you think that Donald Trump makes all his deal successfully without any failure? That is impossible, failure is the mother of all successes. In fact, the more you fail, the more successful you will be.

If you want to be successful today, dare to fail! Take it as a challenge, take it as a chance for you to improve, learn from your failure and change your strategy. Read this post and get inspired so you will never be afraid of failure anymore, Do You Dare To Fail?

Here is one of my favorite quotes from Donald Trump:

“My policy is to learn from the past, focus on the present and dream about my future!”

4. They Are Afraid Of Humiliation

After you have set your goals, did you stick the paper where you’ve written down your goals on the place where you can see often? Most people won’t do this, why? One word, humiliation. Many of us are afraid to tell our friends of our goals. Don’t worry about this, what is wrong with having big goals? What is wrong if you set your goals to live a successful life?

When you think about it carefully, everyone wants to live a successful life, just that they don’t dare to make it public because they are afraid that their friends will laugh at them. Frankly, if you tell your friends that your goal is to become a millionaire, how many of them will laugh at you?

The answer is, not much. Most of your friends are very supportive, some may even encourage you to achieve great goals and big dreams. This is what friends are for, right?

So it is fine to share your goals with people, don’t worry that if you cannot achieve your goals and people might laugh at you. Will you improve even if you did not achieve your goals? Of course you will.

Just like if you set your goal as to double your income, will you guarantee to achieve it? No, but does it really matter even if you don’t achieve it? Will you improve and earn more than usual? Of course you will! When you have a clear and specific goal and you start to work on it, you will definitely improve even if you did not achieve it.

This is why goal setting is so important. It helps you to stay focused and help you to improve the quality of your life slowly, day by day. Thus, if you haven’t found yourself a goal, make sure you set it right now, before you leave this blog.

Ask yourself what you really want to achieve in your life, what you really want to accomplish in your life and what do you want out of your life? Remember, if there is a piece of advice that I can give to help you achieve much more in your life, it is goal setting…

The Top 3 Reasons You Need To Have A Goal

October 9th, 2008

Goal SettingHave you ever thought of why do you need to have a goal? Why is that every successful person set goals anyway? There must be some reasons behind why they do so. For me, there are basically only 3 reasons why I set my goals…

1. Goals Keep Me Focus In My Direction

I believe you know this. The number one reason people set their goals is because goals can keep them staying focused in where they are heading. It does not matter where you come from, the real key is where are you heading? Maybe you come from a poor family or maybe you live a mediocre life. But it does not matter because everyone has different background.

It does not mean that if you come a rich family, you will 100% achieve your goals because you are rich. It also does not mean that if you come from a poor family, then you will be staying poor forever. Where you want to go is the real key to achieve great success in life.

Like I said, goals keep you staying focuses on where you are heading. If you don’t have a goal today, where will you be heading? Like if your goal is to become a top player in tennis, but if you haven’t found this goal yet, where will you be going? Will you improve your tennis skill? Mostly not, because it does not matter for you whether you are a top tennis player or not. However, once you have a clear goal of wanting to become a top tennis player, what kind of action will you take? Will you keep on thinking about this goal? Of course you will. And if you keep on thinking about this goal, will you take more action and train more? Definitely.

So you see, your goals keep you focus in where you are heading. It is the same if you want to be a millionaire. You need to set goal to achieve it. Your goal will then keep you focus and moving you toward that direction. As a result, you will take more action along the way, and hence, improve in the area of where you have set your goals.

It does not matter even if you did not achieve your goals. I cannot guarantee that once you have set your goals, you will achieve them. What I can promise is that once you have set your goals, you will definitely improve in that direction. Why? It is because you will at least take some action that moves you toward your goals, therefore, improve in that direction.

This is the number one reason why goal setting is so important. It gives you reasons to wake up in the morning, it is the determinant of how you live your life today.

2. Your Goals Somehow Motivate You

In fact, it is not your goals that motivate you, it is the reason behind your goals that motivate you. However, the moment you set your goals, you are cleared with the reason why you want to achieve them, this gives you a strong desire and this desire is going to drive you forward.

Whenever you look at your goals, you will be motivated because your mind know the reasons behind your goals. Your goals are somehow linked with your purpose of achieving them. That means, when you see your goals, you will get motivated because they are the signal that drives you in your life.

This is just like the moment you see your dream car, you will get motivated, because it will trigger your hot button and get you driven. Your goals have this very same function. The moment you see your goals, you will get motivated, they remind you of what you have to do and what you have to accomplish in your life.

This is why you need to write down your goals and paste them somewhere you can see often. Unfortunately, this is also the step that most people are not doing because they are shy about their goals, they fear others might laugh at them if they fail to achieve their goals.

3. Get You What You Want In The Shortest Time Possible

If you don’t have any goal today, you will be like lost sheep that dangling in nowhere. When you know what exactly that you want in your life, you are clear of your direction, you know where you want to go and you will save a lot of time focus and get there.

Have you ever heard of the Pareto 80/20 rule? Your goals will determine your action. That means, if you have a goal today, you will spend most of your time doing what’s necessary to get you there, you are spending 20% of your time to produce 80% of the results that you want. If you don’t have a clear goal today, you will do a lot of things that give you little results because you are focused.

The Number One Reason You Fail to Achieve Your Goals

August 30th, 2008

Do you have a goal? And if you do, did you achieve it? Most people know that if they want to achieve success in their life, they need to have a clear and specific goal. The problem with this is that most people still fail to achieve what they want in their life even if they have set their goals.

Goal Setting in Life

Why is this so? Is that goal setting does not work? No, it is not goal setting that does not work, it is you that do not work! Before you can achieve your goals, you have to understand that it is action that will bring your goals come true. That means, without taking any real solid action, you are not going to achieve your goals. Action produces result. Make this clear.

Now, once you knew that in order to make your goals come true, you need to take action. However, what actually drives you into taking all the action? Most people fail because they procrastinate, they did not take enough action to make their goals come true. So what is the #1 reason you fail to achieve your goals? To answer this question, you need to know what drives you into taking action.

It is the Reason Behind that will Drive You into Action

This is the #1 reason people fail to achieve their goals. It is the reason behind you that will drive you into taking massive action. Think about it, if you your reason is not strong, will you do whatever it takes to achieve your goals? Hardly. Read: What Actually Drives You Towards Your Goals

Let me give you an example here. There is a father, who smoke all the time. And one day, he realized that he needs to stop smoking because it is a bad habit for his daughter. So he set his goal as to stop smoking. However, his reason is not strong enough, he just could not stop smoking. Until one day, her daughter cry and tell him, “Papa, I don’t want to lose you. I just cannot see you die because of lung cancer. My teacher taught us that smoking increases the chance of getting lung cancer!”

After this event, the father stops smoking completely. Why? This is because the reason has become stronger than before. When the reason for you to do something is stronger than to procrastinate, you will take the necessary to make it come true.

Take the example above, and imagine that you are that father who cannot stop smoking. And one day you went for medical check up and the doctor tells you that if you keep on smoking, you will die within 3 months because of cancer. Now, do you think that you will stop smoking and live a healthy lifestyle? You bet.

Therefore you see, when the reasons are so strong behind your goals, you will do whatever it takes to achieve it. People fail to achieve their goals simply because their reasons to achieve their goals are not strong enough. Just like if your goal is to become a millionaire, is becoming a millionaire a MUST for you? Or it is just a wish? For most people, becoming a millionaire is just a dream, it is just a goal for them to live a better life, it is not a must. And this is why most people are not millionaires.

Your Goals Must be Consistent with Your Values

Another big mistake most people make in goal setting is this, their goals are not consistent with their values. What I mean here is that the goals that you set must be aligned with what you really want to achieve in your life. If you hate mathematics, but you set your goal as to score A in maths, will you achieve this goal? Not likely because you don’t have the passion for it!

That is why I said that your goals must be consistent with your values. A lot of people set goals that they hate to achieve. Money is a very important subject in our life, people set goals to make more money in their life by doing things that they DON’T LIKE. If you are serious in achieving what you really want in your life, find out what really passionate you, then set goals in that area and you will find that it is A LOT MORE EASIER to achieve those goals.

I hope you can see it clearly now. Go through your values and find out what you really want to achieve in your life. Your future lies within your hand. Know where your passion lies and what you really want to achieve in your life today, take as long as you need to find out the reasons behind your life. Ask yourself what really drives you into taking action and what keeps you going in your life.

The journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step. Hence, take the first step to find out what you really want. Then follow through my post in Goal Setting, craft and design your road map to success.

Goal Setting VS Strategy Planning

July 11th, 2008

As you may already know, goal setting is not the same as strategy planning. However, both goal setting and planning are important in our life, because with both of them, we can basically achieve anything we want in our life.

So What is Goal Setting?

Like what I told you, goal setting is not the same as planning. Goal setting is writing down WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE in your life. For example, your goals can be to buy a sports car or to earn $1 million dollar in just 3 years. These are what I called your goals. If you did not write down your goals, they will be dreams. Once you write them down, they will become goals for you to achieve.

There are many ways to set your goals, if you are not sure what are the criteria for setting an effective goal, read Goal Setting for more information. Always remember to write down your dreams, let it become more tangible in your life. Write them down and go through them as much as possible everyday, go through them at least once before you sleep and once right after you woke up.

What is Strategy Planning?

For me, strategy planning is different from goal setting. Strategy planning is something EVEN MORE tangible, they are what I called ‘steps’ that you must take in order to achieve your goals. Like goal setting, you too, must write down your strategies how are you going to achieve your goals. Yes, strategy planning are the steps how are you going to achieve your goals.

Take the example above, if your goal is to earn $1 million in just 3 years, how are you going to achieve it? Are you going to venture into the world of internet marketing? Or maybe you have strong desire in network marketing? What about stock or property investment? As you can see now, strategy planning are the steps that you can actually TAKE to make your goals come true.

You Need Both to Succeed in Your Life

Yes, you need both goal setting and strategy planning to achieve what you want in your life. Without anyone of them, you will never achieve what you always dream of.

Let’s say that you have set your goal as to earn $1 million from internet marketing in just 3 years. So your strategy planning can be:

  1. Penetrate your target market using affiliate marketing.
  2. Set up a lead capture page to capture visitor’s contact.
  3. Make use of email marketing to close sales.
  4. Drive traffic to your lead capture page with article marketing and forum marketing.
  5. Improve the system and make at least $500 per week.
  6. Decide whether to launch another program to profit from or keep on improving the sales.

I believe that you are clear now and you can see the big picture of what goal setting is and what strategy planning is. Now, both goal setting and planning can be as specific as possible. In fact, the more specific your goals and your plans are, the easier you are going to achieve your dreams. (How to Catalyze Your Thoughts and Dreams)Aim and Hit Your Target Goals

Goals are just like your target, they keep you stay focused so that you will not running out of the direction where you are heading. As for strategy planning, if goal is your target, then planning will be your arrow and your bow. The arrow and the bow are how you are the tools how are you going to hit your target with.

If You Don’t Know What You Want, You Are a Walking Dead

I hope that you are clear with goal setting and planning now. They are not the same, but their reasons are the same, that is to help you achieve what you wanted the most in your life.

If you still don’t know what you want to achieve in your life, make sure you find out the answer before you sleep tonight. Life without dreams and goals is meaningless.

Have you ever watched Resident Evil? If you don’t have a clear goal of what you want to achieve in your life today, you will be just like the walking dead in the movie. You don’t know where to go and you don’t know who you are. All you do is attacking those who still live, why? Because it is what every walking dead did!

So you see, if you don’t have a plan today, you are going to end up in somebody else’s plan, you are going to end up doing what everyone is doing. That is why 95% of the people in this world are complaining about their life, only 5% of them are satisfied with their life, because they know exactly what they want in life, they determine their life’s meaning. You are no different than the undead if you don’t have a clear goal and a specific plan of how to achieve them in your life.

Therefore, find out what you really want in your life today, make sure you write down your dreams and develop plans for your goals. The journey of a thousand leagues start from a single step, so take that first step today, make your dreams come true. Read 4 Steps to Achieve Anything You Want in Life.
