Anchoring: How It Is Used To Control Your Emotion
Do you ever feel sad, when you’re down, but the moment you see something, or maybe you hear something, it turns you back into positive state again, you feel motivated and fully recharge? This process is called anchoring, and it can change the state of our mind, either from positive state to negative, or the other way round. Which means that you can make use of anchoring to make you feel inspired and motivated all the time! It is a powerful technique often used by successful people, just that we don’t realize about it.
There are two kinds of anchoring. Like I’ve said, it can change your positive state to negative, this is what we don’t want. For example, there are some people who start feeling sleepy the moment they flip open the pages of a thick book. It’s the sight of the thick, heavy tome which they associate with boredom and sleepiness. Let me show you another example how anchoring works. To many people, the theme of ‘Chariots of Fire’ will make them fire off the state of inspiration and motivation. The same goes to the Rocky Theme, when you heard those themes, you will straight away feel inspired and motivated again!
Basically, anchoring can be categorized into 3 groups, visual anchors, audio anchors, and kinesthetic anchors (feeling). Visual anchors are the anchors that works when you see something. Just like the moment I saw my dream car, Honda Civic, I will straight away feel motivated and keeps on reminding myself that I’m going to own it. Do you have this kind of anchors? As for audio anchors, it is something that you hear and makes you fire off the positive mind state, such as the Rocky Theme. While for kinesthetic anchors, it is when someone touches you in certain way or you move in a certain way that fires off a particular state of mind. Tiger Woods will pump his fist to make him stay in his power and positive state.

How anchoring is develop? It is because in the past, every time when you are in a positive (or negative) state, you constantly making a process (sound, image, or move) until this process becomes anchored to that particular state. So how anchoring is going to affect our lives? Have you ever wonder why Nike pays sports stars millions of dollars just to wear clothes with that famous swish logo? They do it because they understand the power of anchoring. When people see Tiger Woods and felt an intense state of inspiration and motivation, they would see the Nike swish. The same goes to Michael Jordan. When people watched Jordan and felt incredible, they would see Nike swish. So this swish is going to make you feel great, the state of power, motivation and confidence were anchored to the visual swish logo.
Now this anchor gets people to pay hundreds of dollars for those Jordan shoes and Nike golf cap and T-shirts. Why? Somehow when people wear it, they feel great! This is the power of anchoring! Nike spends millions of dollars just to make their business grow. Therefore do you think that this million-dollar technique going to work for you? Absolutely. You can use this technique when you feel down. If you want to make more money and become a Millionaire, then you will need your own anchors.
