Why You Fail To Achieve Your Goals And How You Can Make Your Goals Come True

July 23rd, 2009

If you’ve been following me with my blog here, you should know that you need to have a clear goal. If you want to be successful but you don’t have a goal, you will never achieve what you want in your life.

I’m not going to tell you why you need to have a goal in your life or how to set an empowering goal in this article. What I’m going to share with you here today is something that I found interesting.

I believe that almost everyone who sets their goals fail to make their goals come true.

I don’t know about you, but this has happened to me before. Why is this so?

And in this article, I’m going to share with you the idea why most people fail to achieve their goals and how you can make a different and achieve what you really want in your life.

Your Goals Are Not Your Dreams

First of all, many people treat their goals like dreams. They have big goals, and I mean really big goals. It is great to have big goals, but the problem is, can you really achieve it?

Too often, people set their goals too big until they’re overwhelmed by their goals. In other words, their goals are just unrealistic.

Before you set your goals, make sure they are really within your reach! If you set your goal as to make a million dollar by selling a $1 key chain, do you know how many sales you’re going to make before you can achieve that target? Do you know how many rejections you’ll have to go through before you can finally cross that 1 million dollar mark? Can you really stand the rejection? Are you really committed to put in the crazy hard work?

This is what is happening to most people. If you’re trying to earn a million dollar by selling a $1 key chain, you’ll give up faster than you can ever imagine.

What is more worse is that people will set a very short deadline for their goals. For example, they want to lose weight and they want to lose it fast. It is just like you set your goal as to make $100,000 in just 24 hours, which is not really possible.

I’m not saying that you cannot set big goals or it is impossible to achieve such a big goal in a short time. What I’m suggesting you is…

Start With Small Goals To Stretch Your Muscle

You have to start small. You have to make use to goal setting and you must train yourself, your muscle and your brain about achieving goals.

If you set 100 goals but you fail to even make anyone of them come true, what will you do? Do you think you will feel de-motivated and give up forever?

Of course you will! So use goal setting in the right way. Start from setting small goals that you can attain.

Let me give you an example here. If your usual wake up time is 7am and you want to improve it to 6am, what you can do is by setting small goals to train yourself in achieving it.

You can start by waking up at 6.50am for 3 days, 6.40am for another 3 days, 6.30am for the next 3 days and so on until you achieve your ultimate goal.

It is the same if you want to adopt the habit of reading. Some people will feel sleepy once they open their book. So what you can do is start from small task. Train yourself to read for 5 to 10 minutes. And then slowly increase the time you spend into reading until you get use to it and eventually achieve your goals.

You must not OVERDO yourself. You’re not superman and you will never be! (and I hope you don’t want to be a superman because you’ll have to wear your underwear outside! :P )

The whole message of this article is this, do not set goals that are unrealistic or outside of your reach, at least not when you’re new in goal setting. Make sure your goals are attainable.

Always start with smaller goals that you can achieve to build up the momentum. Once you achieved your goals, you will feel happy and extremely fulfilled. So what good is this?

You will be motivated, you will take even more action and set even higher goals in your life.

Therefore, if you’re not achieving your goals, maybe this is one of the reasons for it.

So try to break down your goals into smaller goals and start taking action, right now!

Success Tips Revealed – Know Your Current Position In Your Life

July 21st, 2009

Hey, how do you do?

Are you moving toward what you want in your life? Have you achieved some of your goals?

If you haven’t, you really have to be serious and track the performance of what have you done in the previous months or years. Think back right now. Think about 3 years back, or maybe even a few months back. Think about what you have done and how your decisions have brought you here.

So are you getting to where you want to be in your life?

Chances are, many people don’t track their records. They just live their life as it is. They have the attitude of whatever will be, will be. They never thought of whether they will achieve their goals if they keep on doing the things they do. And I even doubt it if that they have a goal. (If you want to learn about goal setting, read my posts under Goal Setting category)

You have to ask yourself this very question right now:

“If I keep on doing what I’m doing, will I ever make my goals come true?”

If your answer is a yes, you’re on the right track. So what you have to do then is just to put even more effort into what you’re doing to speed up the process of getting results. Or you can leverage and change to a better strategy.

However, if your answer is a no, it will be time for you to seriously think about your life. Do you really want to achieve your goals? If you are serious about achieving what you truly want in your life, you have to do something to change the situation.

Keeping doing the same thing will never yield you the results you want in your life.

It all comes down to this, knowing where you are. Once you knew whether you’re moving closer or further away from your goals, you can then start to craft your strategies and change your decisions. You can make the decision right now so that you will do something that will lead you to your goals.

It is so important for you to know where you are right now.

Here is an example of what you can do for your goals. Think back 5 years from now, did you improve your life? From the scale of 1 to 10, with 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest, where do you think the scale will be when you are 5 years back?

What about now? What are the scale you are giving for you life right now? Are you improving? I hope so.

So here is what you can do. Take one of your goals that you are pursuing right now, and do this same exercise on it. If you’ve been trying to accomplish this goal for sometime, let’s say 3 months, you can track your performance by asking yourself, from the scale of 1 to 10, where were you in the last 3 months? Are you doing good?

What about now? What is the scale you are on right now? If you are improving, it shows that you will definitely achieve your goals someday ahead. However, if the scale is not improving, you have to do something. It shows that you are not creating the results you want in your life.

So take this exercise seriously right now. Think about where you were in the past and think about where you are right now.

The real secret to success is in measuring your performance before you can actually attaining it.

Think Like A Millionaire And Act Like An Athlete

July 6th, 2009

One of the biggest differences between a successful person and an ordinary person is that successful person think what he or she wants most of the time.

Therefore, if you want to be successful, think about what you want to achieve in your life, ALL THE TIME!

Thinking about what you want most of the time will actually make you focus in what you want. You will then make directive decision and slowly taking action toward the direction where you are heading.

It is just like if you never think of improving your golf skill, you will never be serious and committed when playing it. When your friends ask you to go for golf, you may even reject him if it is not your passion.

However, if you keep on thinking about improving your golf skill, the story will be different. You will automatically and tend to go for golf games when your friends invited you. And when you’re playing, you’ll play with seriousness and the determination to improve.

This is what I mean by Think Like A Millionaire.

If you want to be rich, just dream about becoming rich. You have to start achieving in your mind before you can manifest it into your physical life. If you’ve never thought of wanted to win a lottery, you will never buy it.

It is only when you think of it, you will do it.

This is the first step you need to create the life you always dream about. Thinking about getting what you want in your life is the first and the most fundamental step for you to be successful.

So here is my advice for you. Find out what you want after you finish this article, and spend 30 minutes into thinking or visualizing the achievement of what you want. If you find that 30 minutes is just too much, start with 5 minutes, and then increase it slowly, day by day, until you can do it for 30 minutes.

If you can do this, you will eventually get what you want in your life.

Act Like An Athlete

What do an athlete do everyday? TRAINING!

Yes, without training, you will never accomplish what you want in your life. Every athlete achieves their goals through training. Meaning, they DO something everyday to move closer toward their goals.

And you have to be like them. You need to ‘train’ yourself to do something everyday and get closer toward what you want. If you are not doing anything, you will never get to the place where you want to be.

If your dream is to visit Paris, set it as goal, craft a plan on how you can make it happen and take action everyday. It is not like one day you wake up and you find yourself in one of the hotels in Paris. This is just not possible to happen.

The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. It is the single or small steps that matter the most. As long as you take action consistently, no matter big or small, you will eventually reach your goal.

I will end this article with the quote from Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop…

If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito.”
