ProactiveBeing proactive is one of the success strategies that you must adopt. Most people in this world have the reactive mindset instead of proactive mindset. Have you ever attended any seminars before? Imagine that you walk into a room full of strangers to attend a seminar, will you be the first one to introduce yourself to the crowd?

Most people won’t, and that is why they are adopting the reactive mindset. Another common example of a reactive mindset is that when something bad happen, reactive people will tend to blame on the circumstances. They’ll try to find excuses and push the responsibility away from them. On the other hand, someone who is proactive will never do so.

There are some people who interpret proactive to mean pushy, aggressive, or insensitive. But that isn’t the case at all. Proactive people aren’t pushy. They’re smart, they’re value-driven, they read reality and they know what’s needed. The proactive approach is to change from the inside-out. To be different, and by by different, to effect positive change in what’s out there – I can be more resourceful, I can be more diligent, I can be more creative, I can be more cooperative.

Proactive is not all about taking the first step. It is also about being responsible. The word, ‘responsible’, meaning that you’re ‘response-able’, which suggests that you’re able to choose to respond according to the situation. It is just like when something bad happen, you can choose to grief and get nothing done or you can choose to look for solution and solve the problem.

Proactive is a habit. It is something that once you’ve adopted it, you’ll never get lose of it. You’ll a proactive person and a go-getter. Conversely, for reactive people, they are often affected by their physical environment. If the weather is good, they’ll feel good. If it isn’t, it affects their attitude and their performance. Proactive people can carry their own weather with them. Whether it rains or shines make no difference to them. They are value-driven and if their value is to produce good quality work, it isn’t a function of whether the weather is conducive to it or not.

Reactive people are also affected by their social environment. This also means that when people treat them well, they’ll feel well. When people don’t treat them well, they’ll become protective and defensive. Reactive people are those that will build their behaviors and performance on behaves of others, empowering the weaknesses of other people to control them.

This shows that reactive people are driven by feelings, by circumstances, by conditions, by their environment. Proactive people are driven by values – carefully thought about, selected and internalized values.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can hurt you without your consent.” You have the ability to choose what to respond. It is your response that will determine how you feel. If you’ve just won a lottery, you can choose to happily enjoy all the money or you can choose to worry about your security. It is all about how you respond to the situation that is happening around you.

And the decision you make in your heart is value that you adopt all this while. Meaning that it is you who determine your life. You are who you are today because of the decision you’ve made yesterday. Reactive people will respond to the situation differently than proactive people. And that is why you need to adopt this success strategy right now into your life. I know that it will be hard for you to switch from reactive to proactive in a sudden.

Here are 3 simple steps that will guide you into becoming a proactive person. All you need to do is to follow through and apply these steps below into your daily lives. It is in the ordinary events of everyday that you develop the proactive capacity to handle the extraordinary pressures of life. It’s how you make and keep commitments, how you handle traffic jam, how you respond to an irate customer or a disobedient child. It’s how you view your problems and where you focus your energy. And of course, the language you use in your daily life will also affect you.

Here are the steps…

1. For a full day, listen to your language and to the language of the people around you. How often do you use and hear reactive phrases such as ‘if only’, ‘I can’t', or ‘I have to’?

Here are some of the examples of reactive language:

  • There’s nothing I can do
  • That’s just the way I am
  • He makes me so mad
  • They won’t allow that
  • I have to do that
  • I can’t
  • I must
  • If only

Switch these languages into proactive languages:

  • Let’s look at our alternatives
  • I can choose a different approach
  • I control my own feelings
  • I can create an effective presentation
  • I will choose an appropriate response
  • I choose
  • I prefer
  • I will

2. Identify an experience you might encounter in the near future where, based on past experience, you would probably behave reactively. How could you respond proactively? Take several minutes and create the experience vividly in your mind, picturing yourself responding in a proactive manner. Remind yourself of the gap between stimulus and response. Make a commitment to yourself to exercise your freedom to choose.

3. Determine a problem from your work or personal life that is frustrating to you. Determine whether it is a direct, indirect, or a no control problem. And then try out this proactivity test for 30 days.

Simply try out these steps and see what happens. Make small commitments and keep them. Be a light, not a judge. Be a model, not a critic. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Try it in your marriage, in your family, in your job. Don’t argue for other people’s weaknesses. Don’t argue for your own. When you make mistake, admit it, correct it, and learn from it immediately. Don’t get into blaming, accusing mode. Work on things you have control over.

It is the value, the thought, the habit that you have deep within you that is the problem, not the situation, not your wife, not your boss and not your children. It is YOU that determine the outcomes you’re going to receive. You are responsible for your own effectiveness, for your own happiness, and ultimately, your life.

So learn to adopt this fundamental success strategy in your life. It is the basic mental effectiveness to every other habit in your life.

The law of attraction simply states that like attracts like. That means, if you want something in your life, you must often think about it and do more about it to make it come true.

The famous book, The Secret, became a life-changing guide for many people. If you read it, I know you’ll know what I mean. And I believe that many of you are one of The Secret’s fans.

So do you want to activate your law of attraction? Do you want to attract what you want into your life? Do you want money? Do you want to be successful? And with the help of this law, you can now achieve anything you want in your life easily. The good news is, I’m going to share with you how you can activate your law of attraction right now in this very article.

However, before I tell you how you can do it, you must first understand this. For the law of attraction to work, you must first believe that this law actually works. Let me give you an example here. If you want to become a millionaire, you must first believe that becoming a millionaire is possible for you. It is the same concept here. If you want the law of attraction to work for you, you must believe in the principle of like attracts like.

You Have To Start From The Beginning

Many people have tried with this law of attraction, but most of them fail to attract what they want into their life. And the reason is this, they don’t believe that it works. With your current thoughts, feeling and action, it will be hard for you to believe that you can actually acquire something by simply thinking and acting towards it. It is just like a sponge, when it soak up all the waters, it can never take anymore water. Think about it, with the news transmitted from the television, the radio, and lately, the internet, have become the sources of negativity. I’m not saying that you can’t watch television or listen to the radio, just that when you turn on either your radio or your television for the news, you’ll often heard about negative news.

These are what will drag down your mind. Therefore, you must get rid of the negativity first before you transmit the positive vibration thoughts from your mind. What you can do here is to read more positive news like success and inspirational stories. Talk in positive language, such as instead of saying “I’ll never lose this game”, say “I’ll win this match”.

Believing and starting anew is the first and the fundamental step that you must take before you start to apply the law of attraction. By slowly decreasing the negative thoughts in your mind, you will then start to fill your mind with more and more positive thoughts. Go slow, you only need to take one little step everyday.

1. Create Positive Affirmation of What You Want

Do you know what you want in your life? You must know exactly what you want before you attract it into your life. Once you know what you want, you’ll have to create positive affirmation and affirm it at least twice a day.

So what is an affirmation anyway? An affirmation is a wish stated as if it is true. Thinking, writing and saying an affirmation is one of the most powerful ways how you can have positive change in your life. After all, you are who you think you are. If you think you can do it, you’ll definitely do it. That’s how every successful person achieve amazing results.

When you start to affirm on what you want, you’ll slowly activate the Law of Attraction, you’ll attract what you want into your life. Affirmation is also a way you can use to change your behavior and habits. Think about it, if you are skeptical and negative, it will be hard for you to feel motivated. So you’ll have to first change your thoughts by thinking positive thoughts and everything will start to change.

You can start your affirmation by writing down what you want in your life. For example, “I’m enjoying $100,000 I earned from my business every month” is a good start. You can write it for a few times, then memorize it. Repeat the affirmation twice, once after you wake up and once before you sleep.

2. Act As If You’ve Become Who You Want To Be

This is another powerful success strategies that you can use. You have to ‘act as if’. Act as if you’re rich if you want to be rich. Act as if you’re a millionaire if you want to be a millionaire. Act as if you’re the CEO of your company if you want to be one. Act as if you’re healthy and thin if these are what you’re pursuing.

When you acting just like who you want to be, you’ll start to feel the energy flow within you, you’ll activate the Law of Attraction and you’ll start to see things come true. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832), the German philosopher, once wrote, “Before you can do something, you first must be something.”

Take the time to thank everyone who helped you achieve your goal. Write them a letter, call them, send them an email or send them a present. It can be as simple as a hug and a thank you – to something as elaborate as letting someone use your summer vacation home for a week.

When you take the time to thank someone, they feel acknowledged for their contribution and will be more likely to help you again. This is what you have to do, relax and enjoy yourself after you’ve taken some action. For example, you can go for a movie or play games after you’ve follow trough your schedule and did what you supposed to do. You must be balance in your life. Every time you reach a milestone on the path to ultimate success, and every time you achieve a major goal, you need to celebrate by doing something fun and nurturing.

Every time you work hard to meet a goal, the part of you that just wants to have fun has to sit still and be good. However, just like a child, if it knows it will be rewarded later with a treat, it will hand in there with you. For instance, you can do these to reward yourself:

  • Going for walks in the morning with your wife.
  • Taking a twenty-minute walk after an hour or two of concentrated work.
  • Taking twenty minutes to listen to music and daydream.

  • Taking several week long vacations throughout the year.
  • Daily meditation, exercise and yoga.
  • Going to movies, concerts and plays.
  • Listening to uplifting motivational programs when driving.

As a result of celebratory activities like these, people are willing to put in the long hours when it’s necessary to meet a deadline. So learn to reward yourself wisely.

10. The Amazing Miracle Of Tithing

A great philosopher once said, “whatever you want more of, give it away.” That simple message has been the driving force behind the prosperity of not only individual icons like Carnegie, Ford, and Rockefeller, but of lesser fortunes generated by everyday people.

The best way to ensure an ongoing flow of abundance into your life is to share with others the wealth you receive. You can tithe your time, as well as your money. If you are uncomfortable tithing too much of your money, try tithing more of your time. You can make a huge difference in so many areas of your community by giving of your time.

If you have tried tithing, give it a three months trial and see what happens. Remember that when you are giving, like attracts like. The more you give, the more will come back to you. If need be, start with one percent of your income, time, energy or effort and build up to 10 percent.
