The Number One Reason You Fail to Achieve Your Goals

August 30th, 2008

Do you have a goal? And if you do, did you achieve it? Most people know that if they want to achieve success in their life, they need to have a clear and specific goal. The problem with this is that most people still fail to achieve what they want in their life even if they have set their goals.

Goal Setting in Life

Why is this so? Is that goal setting does not work? No, it is not goal setting that does not work, it is you that do not work! Before you can achieve your goals, you have to understand that it is action that will bring your goals come true. That means, without taking any real solid action, you are not going to achieve your goals. Action produces result. Make this clear.

Now, once you knew that in order to make your goals come true, you need to take action. However, what actually drives you into taking all the action? Most people fail because they procrastinate, they did not take enough action to make their goals come true. So what is the #1 reason you fail to achieve your goals? To answer this question, you need to know what drives you into taking action.

It is the Reason Behind that will Drive You into Action

This is the #1 reason people fail to achieve their goals. It is the reason behind you that will drive you into taking massive action. Think about it, if you your reason is not strong, will you do whatever it takes to achieve your goals? Hardly. Read: What Actually Drives You Towards Your Goals

Let me give you an example here. There is a father, who smoke all the time. And one day, he realized that he needs to stop smoking because it is a bad habit for his daughter. So he set his goal as to stop smoking. However, his reason is not strong enough, he just could not stop smoking. Until one day, her daughter cry and tell him, “Papa, I don’t want to lose you. I just cannot see you die because of lung cancer. My teacher taught us that smoking increases the chance of getting lung cancer!”

After this event, the father stops smoking completely. Why? This is because the reason has become stronger than before. When the reason for you to do something is stronger than to procrastinate, you will take the necessary to make it come true.

Take the example above, and imagine that you are that father who cannot stop smoking. And one day you went for medical check up and the doctor tells you that if you keep on smoking, you will die within 3 months because of cancer. Now, do you think that you will stop smoking and live a healthy lifestyle? You bet.

Therefore you see, when the reasons are so strong behind your goals, you will do whatever it takes to achieve it. People fail to achieve their goals simply because their reasons to achieve their goals are not strong enough. Just like if your goal is to become a millionaire, is becoming a millionaire a MUST for you? Or it is just a wish? For most people, becoming a millionaire is just a dream, it is just a goal for them to live a better life, it is not a must. And this is why most people are not millionaires.

Your Goals Must be Consistent with Your Values

Another big mistake most people make in goal setting is this, their goals are not consistent with their values. What I mean here is that the goals that you set must be aligned with what you really want to achieve in your life. If you hate mathematics, but you set your goal as to score A in maths, will you achieve this goal? Not likely because you don’t have the passion for it!

That is why I said that your goals must be consistent with your values. A lot of people set goals that they hate to achieve. Money is a very important subject in our life, people set goals to make more money in their life by doing things that they DON’T LIKE. If you are serious in achieving what you really want in your life, find out what really passionate you, then set goals in that area and you will find that it is A LOT MORE EASIER to achieve those goals.

I hope you can see it clearly now. Go through your values and find out what you really want to achieve in your life. Your future lies within your hand. Know where your passion lies and what you really want to achieve in your life today, take as long as you need to find out the reasons behind your life. Ask yourself what really drives you into taking action and what keeps you going in your life.

The journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step. Hence, take the first step to find out what you really want. Then follow through my post in Goal Setting, craft and design your road map to success.

What Are The 3D’s to Become a Millionaire

August 27th, 2008

3D MillionaireIf you are looking for financial success today, you must follow the 3D’s rule. So what are these 3D’s all about? They are Discipline, Dedication and Desire. I learned this from a book titled ‘Weekend Millionaire Mindset‘. It is a great book that I strongly recommend anyone who wants to be a millionaire read it.

As you know, the road to becoming a millionaire is not an easy one, it is a very bumpy road. You will have to face a lot of ups and downs before you finally reach your destination. These 3D’s principle was created to help you in your road to become a millionaire.

1. Discipline

You need to have self-discipline. Achieving great wealth in your life is a very challenging mission. If you are serious in becoming a millionaire, you have to possess the discipline of a millionaire. Discipline is developed by making the small decisions, like getting out of bed when the alarm goes off rather than hitting the snooze button. This is what most people are lacking, self-discipline.

You know that you have to read wealth books, do market research for you business and read financial reports and dissect them to the bone before you invest in any stock you pick. However, many people procrastinate and they never really care about this. That is why they fail to become rich. Discipline is one of the most important factors that determine your financial success no matter what business you are in.

If you are in network marketing, you need to have self-discipline, read more self-improvement books and get yourself motivated all the time. Look for prospects and do your follow-up work seriously. The same thing happens if you are in internet marketing. Although that you are working from home, you still need to adopt the self-discipline in order to create amazing results in your life. Write articles and read e-Books the moment you need to. Don’t procrastinate, don’t watch television and don’t chatting with your friends when you have to get your task done.

Put in discipline and commitment. Every business requires this habit, so learn to develop self-discipline in yourself from now on.

2. Dedication

Dedication comes from making decisions to persevere with a course of action until it is brought to a successful conclusion. In other words, by deciding not to be a quitter. Like I mentioned above, the road to become a millionaire is not an easy one and it is not likely to happen overnight. This is where you have to put in your dedication and decide that you are going to put in effort as long as it needs to achieve your goals.

Many people thought that they can become a millionaire in just a short time. Yes, there are people actually become millionaires within a short period of time. However, do you know who are those people? They are either very credible people who already had all the resources to succeed or they are someone who hit the lottery and become rich instantly. If you get rich because of lucky, your wealth will never stay with you for long. This is because you don’t know how to manage your wealth, and you will spend them all.

So accept the truth that you have to put in real effort and it takes time to become a millionaire. It is not likely you will become a millionaire in a matter of days, not even months and maybe not the first few years. Put in full dedication and decide that you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. Tell yourself that you will never quit. Always remember, a quitter will never win and a winner will never quit.

3. Desire

Desire is increased by constantly measuring the results of the decisions we make. In this case, are we better off today than we were yesterday? And don’t measure yourself against others, instead, measure yourself against the way
you were last week, last month, or last year. You need to have the desire to be better with each passing day. You need to have burning desire if you want to be successful in your life. Without a burning desire, you will never achieve your goals simply because you will not be driven into taking action.

So, find out what actually drives you and find out the reason for you to achieve your goals. You need to possess the desire to become better today than yesterday. Always ask yourself whether you have taken more action than yesterday, or have you achieve much more than last month, or what have you learned more today than last month. You need to measure where you are in your life only then you will know whether you are improving.

If you are not measuring your results, you will never know if you are improving. The process of how to measure is easy, just follow your heart and your feeling, you will know if you have achieved much more in your life today than last year. Bear in mind, in order to keep yourself driven all the time, you need to develop the burning desire in your mind. Know why you want to become a millionaire so badly, and you will eventually achieve it.

Opportunity Will Come When You Are Ready

August 25th, 2008

How often have you heard people keep on telling you that it is not that they don’t want to succeed, it is just that they don’t have the opportunity. God has forgotten them and did not create any opportunities for them. Is this true? If you are someone who has a millionaire mindset, you will never think of it this way.

When you are ready, opportunity will come to you! Don’t believe? Try this out. Try to save a portion of your money. Maybe you are just a student and you got no income yet, or maybe you are an adult and you work for living. No matter who you are today, just save a portion of your money. When this portion of money reach a certain amount, miracle will occur!

When you are ready, something will eventually happen. I cannot tell you what kind of opportunity you will get, but I can tell you that somehow opportunity will come when you are ready. If you are a student and wanting to score A’s is always your dream, when you are ready, maybe you will stumble upon a great book that teaches you how to study. You grab that opportunity and you buy that book. As a result, you pass your exams with flying colors.

The same if you are a working adult. When you are ready, opportunity will drop in front of you. Just like if you take up the test to save a portion of your money. When the money reach a certain amount, you will somehow use that money. No matter how you use it, maybe you spend it or maybe you invest it, you will eventually use it. It depends on your mindset and your habits. If you are someone constantly pursuing for higher wealth, maybe you will invest the money. However, if you are someone who spend heavily, maybe you will end up buying something you dream of with that money.

Just like what happened to me last month. I always had a dream of wanting to go for this guy’s seminar in Singapore. He is the world’s number one super affiliate, Ewen Chia. Maybe you have heard of him, maybe not. But that’s not the key here. The thing I want to share with you is this, the moment you got yourself prepared, God will send you the opportunity that you always looking for.

And one day I read the newspaper and I saw Ewen’s face was on the ad section! He is holding a seminar in Malaysia and he is going to have a 3-day workshop too! What a great opportunity for me. Without thinking much, I straight away decided that I’m in for that seminar. So you see, when you are ready, opportunity will come!

Below is the picture that I took with Ewen Chia in his preview seminar.

Me and Ewen Chia

So do you believe it now? Another great example is from the movie The Matrix. One of my favorite movies. Morphues tells Neo that when he is ‘ready’, he won’t even have to dodge bullets. So you see, when you are ready, you are telling the universe that it is time to give you a giant leap in your life. Just like the law of attraction. If you keep on thinking what you want to achieve in your life, you are actually sending message to the universe. You are telling the universe that you want it so much and the universe will give you what you seek.

The same thing happen here. Once you are ready, you are telling the universe it is time to fulfill your dreams and goals. It is not that you don’t have the opportunity, it is just that you are not ready for it!

How to Use Your Physiology to Drive You into Action

August 19th, 2008

Have you ever wanted to be absolutely confident in certain situations when you were feeling unsure? Would it be empowering for you to get into a state of being totally motivated instead of feeling the usual lethargy?

Or how about changing your fear of going on stage to feeling enthusiastic and relaxed when you have to face an audience? How much would it change the results you are able to produce in life? Well you can! All you have to do is to put yourself in that physiology of excellence!

If you want to feel confident, all you have to do is to adopt the total physiology of confidence. If you want to feel motivated, adopt the physiology of motivation. This is called the ‘Act as if…’ principle. If you want to fall a certain state, act as if you were already in that state.

Remember that confidence, motivation and excitement are nothing but emotional states that you have experienced in the past. If you could access these states in a past situation, those same resources are available to you now. All you have to do is to model the exactly same physiology you were in when you experienced it previously.

6 Steps to Modeling Your Physiology of Excellence

Whenever you need to feel particularly motivated, confident and even happy, you don’t have to depend on something external to put you in that state. As long as you have experienced this resourceful state in the past, you can tap into it now by modeling the physiology you were in then.

There are 6 steps you must take to access any resourceful state. Let’s say you have to take on a challenge and you want to put yourself into an absolutely confident state in order to perform at your peak. Below are the 6 steps you must follow:

1. Think of a time in the past when you felt totally confident.

2. Stand the way you would stand if you felt totally confident.

3. Breathe the way you would breathe if you felt totally confident.

4. Have the facial expression, focus in your eyes when you felt totally confident.

5. Gesture the way you would if you felt totally confident.

6. Say what you would say to yourself if you felt totally confident. Make sure you use the same tone, pitch and volume on this.

By modeling the exactly same physiology your body was in previously, you will be able to feel the confidence surging through your body, readying to take you on the challenge!

Let me share with you one real-life example of how physiology can motivate and regain the confidence of a sport star.

At one time, Andre Agassi was invincible on the tennis courts. The world’s number one tennis player would be in a state of total focus and confidence each time he faced his opponent. As a result, he performed at a standard that gave him the winning edge. Then he started to go into a slump. For some reason, he lost his focus and could not get into the right state. He kept missing the ball and making the wrong moves. He consulted peak performance coach Anthony Robbins who explained to Agassi that the reason he was not winning his games was because he was not in the same resourceful states he was in, in the past.

Robbins got Agassi to watch video tapes of the matches in which he won and Agassi started noticing that in those instances, his physiology was different compared to the way he presently carried himself on the courts. In the past, his posture was different, the focus in his eyes was different, his breathing pattern was different and he moved differently.

So Robbins instructed him to watch and model the physiology he had in the past. In the next few matches, Agassi would go in and consciously adopt the exactly same physiology he had in the past. He started getting into his peak state and played the winning way he used to. As a result, he won the US Open within six months and regained his ranking as the world number one.

You have to know that your mind and your body are connected. Just like in the movie, The Matrix, once said, “Your mind cannot live without your body“. What this means is that when you change either your thinking in your mind or your body physiology, the other will change as well. And in this case, you are changing your body physiology, and hence your mind changed as well.

Facial PhysiologyThink about it, when you are feeling bored and tired, how does your physiology look like? Is your shoulder slouched forward? Is your head hanging down? Are your eyes looking down and unfocused? Is your breathing shallow and deep? Is your voice has low volume and low pitch? What about your muscle? Is it relaxed and having tension in the neck?

Now, what about if you are in a totally motivated state? How is your physiology look like? Is your shoulder at your back and your head is up? Are your eyes looking up, widely opened and very focused? How about your breathing? Did you breathe faster and deeper? What about your voice? Did you talk louder and faster?

There are 2 totally different states and that is why you are having 2 different states. Try to use the physiology when you are feeling totally motivated, and then think about feeling bored and getting depressed. It is not possible to be done because your mind and your body are inter-connected.

Just like when you smile and laugh, you will feel happy. Will you smile and laugh the moment you are feeling sad? That is not possible, and even if you try to do so, you will become happy in the end because you are telling your mind that you are in the happy physiology, and your mind will simulate that state.

I hope you can see the big picture now. Use your physiology to stay motivated all the time. When you are feeling sleepy reading articles or blog (I hope my blog won’t make you feel sleepy, ^_^), notice your physiology. Change your physiology immediately and you will see the effect.

Here is a post that teaches you how to make use of your physiology to get you into a motivated state instantly. It is called anchoring! Anchoring: How it is Used to Control Your Emotion

You Need Courage to be Successful

August 17th, 2008

Recently I have just read a book titled, “The Millionaire Next Door”. I believe that you knew about this book and you have heard about it. Maybe you even read about it. I’m very inspired after reading a real-life story told by the author. You need courage to be successful.

It happens to me a lot of times, the moment some opportunities appear to me, I don’t have the courage to take that opportunity. Let me give you an example. Have you ever planned on to go for jogging in the morning? And when in the morning you alarm ring you wake up, brush your teeth and ready to go for jogging, something stops you. You heard your inner voice is telling you that it is boring to jog alone, you heard your inner voice is saying that why do you have to jog alone the moment you can watch television or do some exercise in your house?

I don’t know about you, but this is what sometimes I will face. I believe that everyone has their own fear to conquer in their life. There must be a time where you need courage to make the decision. Think about it, after you finished your secondary school, what kind of decision did you make? Is it a courageous one? If you like to further your studies, will you fly overseas to continue your studies? I believe that this is a decision that requires a lot of courage.

The same thing is happening in your journey to success. If you want to be a millionaire today, and it happens to you that there is a seminar held by a very prestigious speaker. You are very interested in that seminar, but it is going to cost you a big amount of money. Will you take the necessary courage to overcome your fear and attend the seminar anyway? I believe that a lot of people cannot overcome their fear, most of them fail to conquer their fear. It is the fear that is ruling their life, and that is why they hardly create any amazing results.

If you are given an opportunity to make a million dollar, but you will have to go to a country that you don’t even know about in order to expand that business, will you take the opportunity? Courage is everything is making decision. Do not let your fear controls you. Instead, always think positively and make your decision with courage.

A Real-Life Inspirational Success Story:

Jim MacLarenJim, a former Yale University All-American football and lacrosse player, was hit by a bus at age 22; an accident that forced doctors to amputate his leg. However, Jim persevered, beat the odds and became a marathon runner, Ironman triathlete world record holder and earned the title: “The Babe Ruth of Amputee Athletes”.

Eight years later, Jim was once again the victim of a tragic accident; hit by a van while competing in a triathlon and left as a quadriplegic after sustaining serious spinal injuries.

Never the one to give up, Jim once again proved that his spirit was strong enough to surmount even the most unthinkable of adversities. Jim has gone on to become a motivational speaker, founder of the “Choose Living Foundation”, and as Oprah said at the 2005 ESPY Awards in presenting him with ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award, Jim has “given new life to those around the world who need it most”.

For more information, visit: Jim MacLaren at The Final Sprint.

So you see, success require courage. If you don’t have the courage, it will hard for you because the road to success is a bumpy one. You have to face with a lot of obstacles, limiting beliefs, fears and more negative events before you can achieve the success that you always wanted.

Sam Walton’s Wal-Mart Philosophy

August 14th, 2008

Wal-Mart Sam WaltonSam Walton built America’s vast chain of Wal-Mart stores on the philosophies of excellence in the workplace, customer services, and always having the lowest prices. Walton, affectionately known to his staff as ‘Mr. Sam’, was a true entrepreneur. He established Wal-Mart in 1962 at the age of 44. He died in 1992, having seen his company become America’s biggest retailer.

Walton believed that each Wal-Mart store should reflect the values of its customers and support the vision they held for their community. Today, Wal-Mart’s Community Outreach Programmes underwrite college scholarships, raise funds for local children’s hospitals, provide money and manpower for fund raisers, and help educate the public about recycling and saving the environment. Wal-Mart even helps American towns and cities build up their local industries by providing industrial development grants.

What was Sam Walton’s secret to success?

Rule 1: Commit to your business

Believe in it more than anybody else. I think I overcame every single one of my personal shortcomings by the sheer passion i brought to my work. I don’t know if you’re born with this kind of passion, or if you can learn it. But I do know you need it. If you love your work, you will be out there every day trying to it the best you possibly can, and pretty soon everybody around you will catch the passion from you – like a fever.”

Rule 2: Share your profits with all your associates

Treat them as partners. In turn, they will treat you as a partner, and together you will all perform beyond your wildest expectations. Remain a corporation and retain control if you like, but behave as a servant leader in a partnership. Encourage your associates to hold a stake in the company. Offer discounted stock, and grant them stock for their retirement. It’s the single best thing we ever did.”

Rule 3: Motivate your partners

“Money and ownership alone are not enough. Constantly, day by day, think of new and more interesting ways to motivate and challenge your partners. Set high goals, encourage competition, and then keep score. Make bets with outrageous payoffs. If things get stale, cross-pollinate; have managers switch jobs with one another to stay challenged. Keep everybody guessing as to what your next trick is going to be. Don’t become too predictable.”

Rule 4: Communicate everything you possibly can to your partners

“The more they know, the more they will understand. The more they understand, the more they will care. Once they care, there is no stopping them. If you don’t trust your associates to know what is going on, they will know you don’t really consider them partners. Information is power, and the gain you get from empowering your associates more than offsets the risk of information your competitors.”

Rule 5: Appreciate everything your associates do for the business

“A paycheck and a stock option will buy one kind of loyalty. But all of us like to be told how much somebody appreciates what we do for them. We like to hear it often, and especially when we have done something we are really proud of. Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They are absolutely free – and worth a fortune.”

Rule 6: Celebrate your successes

Find some humor in your failures. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Loosen up, and everybody around you will loosen up. Have fun. Show enthusiasm – always. When all else fails, put on a costume and sing a silly song. Then make everybody sing with you. Don’t do a hula on Wall Street. It’s been done. Think up your own stunt. All of this is more important, and more fun, than you think, and it really fools the competition. “Why should we take those cornballs at Wal-Mart seriously?”

Rule 7: Listen to everyone in your company

“Figure out ways to get them talking. The folks on the front lines – the ones who actually talk to the customer – are the only ones who really know what is going on out there. You did better find out what they know. This really is what total quality is all about. To push responsibility down in your organization, and to force good ideas to bubble up within it, you must listen to what your associates are trying to tell you.”

Rule 8: Exceed your customers’ expectations

“If you do, they will come back over and over. Give them what they want – and a little more. Let them know you appreciate them. Make good on all your mistakes, and don’t make excuses – apologies. Stand behind everything you do. The two most important words I ever wrote were on that first Wal-Mart sign, ‘Satisfaction Guaranteed‘. They are still up there, and they have made all the difference.”

Rule 9: Control your expenses better than your competition

“This is where you can always find the competitive advantage. For 25 years running – long before Wal-Mart was known as the nation’s largest retailer – we ranked number one in our industry for the lowest ratio of expenses to sales. You can make a lot of different mistakes and still recover if you run an efficient operation. Or you can be brilliant and still go out of business if you are too difficult.”

Rule 10: Swim upstream

“Go the other way. Ignore the conventional wisdom. If everybody else is doing it one way, there is a good chance you can find your niche by going in exactly the opposite direction. But be prepared for a lot of folks to wave you down and tell you you are headed the wrong way. I guess in all my years, what I heard more often than anything else was: a town of less than 50,000 population cannot support a discount store for very long.”

How They Turn Vision into Victory

August 11th, 2008

Colonel Harland Sanders

Colonel Sanders KFCMore than 2 billion “finger lickin’ good” chicken dinners are served every year in over 80 countries around the world. It all began when an entrepreneur in his sixties, living on social security, had faith in his idea. Born 9 September 1890, Harland Sanders learned how to cook when he was six. His father had just died, his mother was forced to work, and it fell to Harland to put meals on the table. He started working at 12, first on a farm, then as a streetcar conductor, a 16 year-old soldier in Cuba, and a railroad fireman. He studied law by correspondence, sold insurance and tyres, operated an Ohio River steamboat ferry, and ran gas stations.

When he was 40, Sanders began cooking for hungry travelers at his gas station in Corbin, Kentucky, serving their meals at the dining table in his own living quarters. Soon people came just for the food and he opened a 142-seat restaurant across the road. Over the nine years, he perfected his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices and the basic cooking technique that is still used today. His fame grew. He was made a Kentucky Colonel in 1935 for his contribution to the State’s cuisine. But when a new interstate highway bypassed Corbin in the early 1950s, Colonel Sanders was forced to sell up. After paying off his depts, he was reduced to living on his $105 social security cheques.

But the Colonel had a vision: confident of his fried chicken formula, he started franchising his recipe in 1952. The 65 year-old drove across America, cooking batches of chicken for restaurant owners. If they liked what they tasted, he did a handshake agreement that he would be paid a nickel for each chicken they cooked and sold. By 1964 the sprightly Colonel had more than 600 franchised outlets in the US and Canada, and sold his interest for $2 million to a group of investors. He stayed on as public spokesman and by 1976 he was ranked the world’s second most recognizable celebrity.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation went public in 1966. In 1971 it was acquired by Heublein, Inc. for $285 million, which in turn was acquired by tobacco giant RJ Reynolds. The Colonel still travelled 250,000 miles a year visiting the KFC empire he founded until his death at the age of 90 in 1980. In October 1986 PepsiCo, Inc. acquired KFC for $840 million.

Levi Strauss

Levi Strauss came to fame when he decided to sell clothing and supplies to prospectors in the Californian Gold Rush. He headed west to San Francisco in 1850 with a load of “dry goods”. He soon sold out of pants, and with business booming decided to make work trousers out of the canvas he’d brought to sell for tents and covered wagons. Canvas, he figured, could survive the rough conditions of the California Rockies. His first pants were cut from sailcloth, but while they wore superbly they abraded his customer’s skin.

And that is when opportunity knocked. Strauss switched to a tough blue yarn cross-woven with white called denim, softer and more comfortable than canvas but almost as tough. He then nailed copper rivets at the seam junctions to guarantee they wouldn’t come apart under stress.

While most prospectors went home empty-handed, Levi Strauss had struck gold. His blue jeans soon traveled all over America and on to Europe. By the turn of the century, Levi Strauss was the largest producer of branded clothing in the world. First worn by working men and cowboys, American culture took Levi’s to its heart in the 1950s and 1960s.

Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker

They proved how the power of a great idea could change an entrepreneur’s fortunes. They started off manufacturing some rather unusual pieces of machinery in Baltimore. Machines that put caps on milk bottles were one line; currency cutters for the US Mint were another. Then they made history. In 1916, they invented the world’s first portable electric hand drill. Black and Decker revolutionized life for builders and home handymen, Their finest achievement came on the Apollo 15 space mission: a Black and Decker Drill dug out the first samples from the surface of the moon.

King C. Gillette

King C GilletteKing C. Gillette was born in 1855 in Chicago, and named after a prominent judge who was a family friend. The young man became a traveling salesman. In 1891 he went to work for William Painter, the man who had invented the cork-lined bottle cap. Painter suggested that Gillette should invent “something that once used is thrown away, so the customer comes back for more.” Inspired, young Gillette looked for an opportunity.

In those days, most American men went to barbers for a shave. Long, “cut-throat” razors were used which lasted indefinitely and were stropped on leather straps to keep their cutting edges sharp. Gillette, who spent a lot of time travelling and shaving on swaying trains, concluded that all he had to do was perfect the cutting edge of a razor in a smaller, safer form. By 1899 he had designed a compact razor blade holder with disposable blades. He found a partner, engineer William Nickerson, who perfected a blade from ribbon steel.

In 1903 the Gillette razor was launched. (Nickerson decline publicity because he felt that his name was inappropriate for a safety razor!) They charged $5 for the ‘handle’ and $1.20 for twenty blades. It sold so well they reduced the number of blades in a pack to 12 and sold them for $1, effectively increasing their profit margin by 40%.

Most of this profit went into advertising. Gillette’s face appeared on the packaging and in the ads which he wrote himself. In 1903 he had sold 51 razors and 168 blades. By 1917, he was selling 120 million blades a year. By 1920s, Gillette had perfected its mass marketing technique: the “handles” were basically sold at cost, thus encouraging every man to shave himself daily, and the company lived off the sales and profits of its famous blue blades.

10 Steps How to Become a Millionaire (Continue)

August 9th, 2008

This is the second part of 10 Steps How to Become a Millionaire. If you miss the first part, you can always read it here.

5. Learn and Keep on Improving

The road to becoming a millionaire is not a race, it is not a sprint, it is a marathon. You will need time to make yourself and transform yourself into a millionaire. It is not like one day you wake up and you have $1 million in your bank account. The process of becoming a millionaire is a continuous process. Therefore, if you want to achieve this goal, you will need to constantly learn and improve yourself all the time.

How to Become a Millionaire

Nothing can beat continuous improvement. If there is one thing that can bring you unlimited wealth, it is the power of constant and never ending improvement. The moment you stop to learn, you stop to grow. Learning is so much important in your life, it is only through constant learning, you will keep yourself better everyday. If you want to be a millionaire today, then learn and read about what other millionaires do. Follow their footstep and you will be the same just like them.

6. Set a Clear and Specific Financial Goal

You must have a clear and specific financial goal if you want to be a millionaire today. Just like every other goal, you must have one. If you are not clear about how to set goals, how goal setting can help you in your road to success, read my Goal Setting and you will be clear about it.

Do you know how much you want to earn? Do you know how much your net worth is going to be in 3 years time? If you don’t know all this, stop and think for them right now! If you don’t know how much you are going to make, you will never make it, because you don’t even know the amount. Many people say that their goal is to become rich, to make a lot of money. This is not specific enough.

For some people, $1,000 for them is a lot, while for others, $1,000 is very little. Therefore, how much is ‘a lot’ for you? You need to have an exact value for your mind. When your goals are not clear, you are sending blurry message to your mind. All those blurry messages are going to make you confuse, your mind will be having a hard time to come out with a clear strategy and plan on how to achieve it.

7. Track Your Incomes and Expenses

This is what most people will never do, and this is why they are not a millionaire. You need to be serious in dealing with money if you want to become a millionaire today. Learn how to track your incomes and expenses. Just spend around 10 to 15 minutes to do this everyday. It does not matter how you track your incomes and expenses, you can jot them down in a note pad, in your diary, or even into your mobile phone. The key here is the habit. Again, it is your habit that will affect your life.

Did you actually know that most people spend 30 minutes a month into managing their wealth? This is a good thing, but they spent it the wrong way. Most people spend 30 minutes each month paying bills. Yes, most people will manage their incomes and expenses, only when the time they pay the bills. If you want to be rich, you must start from your habit of managing money. If you cannot manage your wealth, you cannot be rich.

Like I said above, you need to learn to do this. No matter how much you are earning and no matter how much your expenses are, it is the habit that you need to master. Even if your earning is very low, you have to track them. By doing so, you are sending the message to the universe that you know to manage wealth and you are ready to receive more. Therefore, start doing this from now on. Learn how to manage wealth, and you will become a millionaire eventually.

8. Debunk Your Millionaire Myths

There are a lot of myths in your beliefs that actually hold you back in achieving more wealth in your life. For example, the most common ones, a lot of people have this myth:

Money will not buy you happiness – True. However, not having money will not make you happier as well. Isn’t it better to be unhappy with money than unhappy without it?

Money isn’t everything – This is the top excuse given by poor people who are in denial. The truth is that everything is money. Without money, you cannot maximize other important values such as family, career, health, spiritual and relationships.

Rich people are materialistic, they worship money – It is the people who lack money who worship it. Who works all day, year after year in a job which they hate, just for the money? Who is wishing they had more money? Who is constantly worrying about money? Who are those who constantly sacrifice their health and family to make more money? It is those who are wealthy or those who have no money? In fact, the rich rarely work because of money. They work because of passion and a sense of personal mission. Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, George Lucas, Michael Jordan and Steve Jobs certainly don’t work for money… they don’t need to.

Money will make you less spiritual – Again, if you are by nature a spiritual person, having money will allow you to touch more lives and help you do more of god’s work. In fact, the wealthiest people in the world are extremely spiritual. Not having to worry about money anymore allows many of the rich to focus on the more important things in life. Many truly wealth people believe they don’t own their money. They are just custodians of God’s wealth.

Money will bring you worries and problems – The majority of the problems people face in life (relationships, health, and career) are the result of the LACK of money.

Money is the root of all evil – The lack of money is the root of all evil. The number one cause of murder, cheating, stealing, lying is poverty (the lack of money).

These myths are grabbed from Adam Khoo’s Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires, you can download The 9 Millionaire Habits from my blog.

9. Create and Compounding Your Wealth

Trust me, of all the 10 steps, this is the toughest and the most challenging step to becoming a millionaire. However, in real life, most people choose this path and are trying very hard with this step. Many people thought that they can only become rich if they can earn a lot of money in their life. In fact, this is a more offensive way, saving and living a frugal life is a more defensive method.

If you apply both offensive and defensive methods, you will multiply your net worth and become rich in no time. There are actually 5 ways you can make money, I called them the Millionaire Mountains. Read my post, The Millionaire Mountains to find out the 5 ways how you can create wealth in your life.

This step involves a lot of hard work and smart work. You need to put in a lot of action before you can see the results that you want. The problem with most people is, they are lazy, they are not committed, they procrastinate, and they don’t have the millionaire mindset. Creating wealth is not as difficult as you think if you are willing to learn and take action. Learning is the first step, the knowledge works as the vehicle that brings you to your destination. While taking action is the second step, it is the fuel that will drive the vehicle to where you always wanted to go.

Many people have the limiting beliefs that saying they cannot be rich or become a millionaire. However, this is not true, you can become a millionaire even if your earning is low. How? By managing your wealth and creating more income streams in your life. As long as you do what you should be doing, money will come to you.

10. Give and You Shall Receive

One of my favorite quotes. If you want to become a millionaire, help others to become a millionaire or solve their problems, and in return, they will make you rich. This is the golden rule of life, “Do not do unto others what you do not want others do unto you”. Always remember, when you have become rich, don’t forget to help people to become rich as well. If you are willing to help and teach people, you will become even richer.

Just like if you take the elevator up to the top floor, don’t forget to send it down so that other people can take it up as well. The journey to becoming a millionaire is not an easy one, you will have to meet with a lot of people in your journey. Treat everyone nice on your way up because you will not know who you will meet on your way down. The more you give, the more you will receive.

These are the required 10 steps how to become a millionaire that you can follow if you really want to be a millionaire. Well, it is easier said than do. You have to take a lot of determination and action to make your dreams come true. Creating wealth and becoming a millionaire is not something like a sprint, it is a marathon.

Number One Reason Why Most People Fail to Become a Millionaire

Like what I have said, the road to become a millionaire is a long one, it is an on-going process, you need to spend time to develop and improve yourself, take action and move closer toward your goals. The number one reason most people fail to become a millionaire is because they give up in the half way. You need to take continuous action for a long time. It is not possible for you to become a millionaire overnight.

Even if you hit the lottery and became a millionaire overnight, your wealth will not stay long with you because you don’t have the knowledge and skills to manage it. The road to become a millionaire is the training ground for you, when you are ready, the wealth will come to you. Many people hope that they can be rich instantly, but as you know, this is not possible, there is instant riches or any free lunch in this world. If you want to be rich, you will have to pay for it, you have to sacrifice your time and energy to achieve it.

I hope this article can help in your journey to become a millionaire. Read the first part here.

10 Steps How to Become a Millionaire

August 5th, 2008

How to Become a MillionaireEverybody wants to be a millionaire, who doesn’t want to, right? To become a millionaire is easy in fact, what it needs is persistent and commitment in taking massive actions. However, this is what most people will not do about, because most people are lazy and they resist change.

Therefore, if you want to be a millionaire today, the first thing you need to do is to accept the change that you want to be a millionaire. You want to live a different live and you want to be rich. You want to have time freedom and you want to be financially free. Accept and make the decision first before you actually become one.

Like what I have said above, to become a millionaire is not difficult. You can follow the 10 steps that I’m going to show you if you want to be a millionaire today. As long as you stick to these 10 steps, you will find that you are moving closer toward your millionaire goal each and everyday. However, if becoming a millionaire is such an easy task, why isn’t everyone a millionaire?

You have to know this, millionaires are different from ordinary people, they have higher determination and they are very committed in everything they do. The most important criteria is, they are willing to take MASSIVE and CONSISTENT action in order to achieve their goals. This is what separates millionaires from ordinary people. Most people just talk and dream about becoming a millionaire, they will never take the necessary action that will bring them there. Even if they take the action, they will not do it continuously for a long time. That is why most people are not a millionaire.

If you want to be a millionaire today, you have to decide that you MUST take consistent action each and everyday toward your goals. What action steps you take here are not important, the key here is the habit of doing it, the habit of developing yourself as someone who are committed, have the determination and willing to take action to achieve what you always wanted in your life.

So now have you decided to become a millionaire? If you are not, make sure you know what you really want in your life before you read on. If you are, proceed to discover the 10 steps how to become a millionaire.

Step #1 – The Power of Savings

No matter who you are today, you must learn to adopt the habit of saving. It is the number one factor that will bring you to become a millionaire. Think about it, can you become a millionaire even if you are earning $500,000 a month but you tend to spend all of the money? No matter how much money you earn today, if you are not saving them, you will never become a millionaire.

You have to learn to save your money before you can be rich. It is a common sense. How did Warren Buffet made his first million? Through saving and investing. Without saving, you will never have the extra money to create other streams of income. I strongly encourage anyone to save a portion of their earnings.

The problem with most people is this, they tell you that they don’t have the money to save! Make this clear, how much you save is not important, even if you save $1 a month, you are still saving. The amount is not important here, the key here is the habit. Again, you have to develop the habit of saving. If your earning is small, then start from saving small. You don’t necessarily have to save $100,000 straight away.

Save a small portion of your money if you don’t have much, and save more when you have a lot. Remember, you want to develop the habit of saving.

Step #2 – Frugality

From the famous book, “The Millionaire Next Door”, the author, Thomas J Stanley and William D Danko revealed that most millionaires are frugal, they live well below their means. They carried out surveys 20 years ago to study how people became wealthy. And they discovered something odd, many people who live in expensive homes and drive luxury cars do not actually have much wealth. And many people who have a great deal of of wealth do not even live in upper neighborhoods.

Amazing discovery indeed. Today, what are the lifestyles you are living? Do you drive luxury cars, stay in big houses and dining in the finest restaurant? If you are, ask yourself, are you wealthy? Is your net worth more than one million? The thing is, most people are having the wrong perception of how rich people live their life.

Many people thought that rich people, millionaires all live their life luxury, they drive big cars and stay in big houses, they wear branded clothes and they dine in top restaurants. This is not true, simply because millionaires know very well that if you do so, you will never be rich. Why? Because you have spent all your money into luxury items instead of growing them!

Often, the media also plays an important role in shaping our life. If you notice, the media is actually showing the wrong image of millionaires as well. In almost every movie that you have watched, rich people are those greedy bad people who drive sport cars and they dominate over the poor. Is this true in the real world? Not likely. Read The Millionaire Next Door if you want to find out, you are going to be amazed by what you read.

Here is a similar post that I have written previously, Don’t Go Wrong Together With The Media.

Step #3 – Think Like a Millionaire

Yes, you have to think like a millionaire if you want to be a millionaire. It is the millionaire mindset that you must adopt in order to become a millionaire. Many people do not think like a millionaire. A millionaire adopts a victor’s mindset, while most people adopt the victim’s mindset.

Imagine and ask yourself for a while. If you fail to achieve your goals, say in making money in your business, what will you do? Blame the prospect for not buying? Blame the economy? Blame the whole world except yourself? Or are you going to give excuses like the economy has been down, or the prospect cannot afford to buy what you offer? Giving excuses and blaming other factors will not make you a millionaire. It only sink you down and stay in the victim’s mindset forever.

Everything starts from your mind. It is your mindset and beliefs that will determine what decision you will take. And it is the decision that you make that will lead you to your life today. If you are living poor today, it is because of your mindset. Think about it, when you go to a shopping center and a stranger approach you with some ‘flyer’ like of papers in his hand. What comes into your mind? Will you think that it is just another sales pitch? Or will you think that it is a great offer?

This is just an example. I just want to show you that what you have in your mind will determine what you have in your life. Therefore, if you want to be a millionaire today, think like a millionaire. What will a millionaire do when they come across opportunities in their life?

Learn to control your mindset, always adopt empowering mindset that will lead you to higher success. Your mind is your greatest asset in your life, invest in it and you will have infinity percentage of return.

Step #4 – Do What You Love

To be a millionaire, you have to do what you love. Look at all the rich people in the world, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, and more. They are all doing the things that they love to do. And it is because of this, they are wealthy today. If you are doing something you love, you will never feel boring and you will be motivated all the time. This is because it is fun for you and it is not working anymore.

Do you feel boring the moment you read and research on a company’s annual report? If it is so, it shows that you don’t have the passion in this field. Do some other things that you are passionate about. Think for something that you do in your life which you think you are passionate in, and do it more. It is the natural motivation that will bring you to your success. This is the secret to be a millionaire. Many people have the wrong beliefs, they thought that:

Make Money –> Enjoy The Money and Do What I Love –> Live a Happy Life

This is wrong. If you think that you should work hard to earn all the money first, then only you can enjoy the money by buying what you love and enjoy your life, you are wrong. This is not the way. If you are following this route, it is going to be difficult, because you are not doing what you love and you thought that it is the money that can buy you happiness.

Millionaires have different mindset, they think of this:

Do and Enjoy What I Love –> Make Money –> Continue To Do What I Love

This is the real path to riches. You should choose to do something that you love and only then money will follow. This is because when you are doing something you love, it is not working for you, it is enjoying. When you do something for the sake of money, you will feel all the difficulties and it will be hard for you.

However, if you do it because you love it, you will never work for another day. You will be driven all the time and you will have the drive that keeps you going. This is exactly what you need.
